HELPFUL TIP….Preparing NOW for Formal Nights

RUSS
Since we are in the season for celebrations. I thought I would offer you a helpful tip for preparing for our cruise formal nights. On this 15 day cruise you will have 3 Formal Nights and 12 Smart Casual Nights for your attire preparation and planning.

For those fairly new to the cruise scene. You maybe wondering what the definition of “Formal” verses “Smart Casual” mean?

Formal nights means evening gowns, cocktail dresses or glitzy dressy pant outfit for women. While Tuxedos and Dark Suits with Ties are the standard for men.
MARTY

Smart Casual means guest attire should be in keeping with what they wear at a nice restaurant. Skirts, sun dresses with cover top, slacks and sweaters for ladies and for men, long pants and open neck shirts with collars, such as an aloha shirt or polo shirt. If you insist on a t-shirt. Plain, non-printed t-shirts with a sport or suit coat is a very accepted look.  Inappropriate dinner wear examples are any pool or beach attire, shorts, ball caps, short sleeve and sleeveless t-shirts and casual jeans with fraying and/or holes are not permitted in the dining rooms. Shoes must be worn.

Now that you have this understanding...my tip is this. The Holiday Season is here and its a perfect time to buy those glitzy outfits. And better yet, take advantage of the after season sale.

In regards to the Tuxedo option...I will be spotlighting a future article on how you can rent a Tuxedo for the cruise. Roger loves to take advantage of this, simply because all your formal wear needs will be sent to your cabin and you don’t have to pack it!
ALEX-TED-CONNIE

Lastly for you women folk...I like to go with the sleek glamour black. It’s an acceptable and easy to match color. Definitely, “Formal” and easy to dress up..add a beaded top, Or dress it up with glittery or shimmery scarf or fancy beaded pearls or sparkling jewelry
and voila you are set. If simplistic is your choice, then bring your formal black outfit of choice and mix and match with those glitzy accessories to combine your 3 formal wear outfits.

The key here is to plan now and keep your eye on the Holiday Season celebration outfits. because we embark on October 3rd, this will be too early for you to catch the 2015 Holiday Season Celebration Outfits, so mark your To Do List !

Cruise Ship & Nautical Language - A word for almost everything!

Okay for some of our guests the big decision is now behind you! You have paid your deposit and you have a stateroom assignment...so perhaps it’s time to get familiar with your ocean home for the next 15 days on the Ruby Princess. But before exploring the ship and deck plans. I thought it would be fun to introduce you to some basic cruise lingo!

Though not necessary to get around the ship, knowing the ship terminology makes it fun and kind of an authentic seafaring experience. Here are a few terms that will make you look like you’re a seasoned cruiser as well as getting you familiar with your floating home to your Hawaiian getaway…let's see how many of these terms you know?

Aft - Towards the rear of the ship
Amidships - Towards or at the middle of the ship
Astern - Behind the ship
Beam - Ship’s width at the widest point
Below - The area below the “Main Deck”
Berth - Quay, dock or pier where the ship ties up or the act of so doing. Also a term used aboard ship for a sleeping point or bed.

Captain - Overall commander of the ship
Chief Engineer - Officer responsible for mechanical well being of the ship
Course - Ship’s passage in a given direction expressed in degree
Cruise Director - Individual in charge of entertainment and on-board activities
Disembark - To get off the ship
Embark - To join a ship for a voyage
Fantail- The rear, overhanging part of the ship
Fore- Front part of the ship
Galley- Ship’s kitchen
Gangway- The passageway or stairway that links the ship to the quayside

Why Should I Sign-Up with the "DAVIS" Group?

Traveling with Friends is comforting!
So the question proposed is “Why should I sign-up with the Davis Group?”
Great question...

Although many of you have traveled with our group before there are others who may be new or perhaps still for those not signed up yet, may want to utilize their own travel agent.  Quite simply put... you can use whoever you like, HOWEVER,  doing so will allow you to book the 15 day Hawaiian Cruise on the Ruby Princess but NOT get you into the exclusive speciality of being a part of our Davis Renewal Group AND "all it’s celebratory information, personal attention, events, group discounts, activities and other potential cruise benefits" liked those who have chosen to sign-up with Alex at Innovative Travel Planners.

Roger and I have decided that we will be renewing our vows on board the ship and the invitation will be exclusive to those signing up through Alex. We are very please, to have Alex as part of our renewal party because we know she and her company have always gone the extra mile for us . Alex started with us at our 15th Anniversary and now we are the lucky ones to have her not only as our travel agent but also along with her husband Ted, have become very good friends.  Alex brings to the team over 40 years of professional travel agency experience as well as being an avid traveler herself. We have the utmost respect for her and appreciate all she has done for our travel groups.

During this cruise you will have exclusive benefits for being a part of “Our Group”. This is not to say that you have to be with “The Group”.  If you care to have a more solo cruise experience, the choice is absolutely there for you. With our group, you can embark and disembark to your liking. But being affiliated with a group such as ours, can only provide you with a bit more personal attention as well as optional fun activities, familiar camaraderie beyond just boarding the mega Princess Cruise Line as well as other potential perks which may include any discounts or price reductions that we can only hope to get through Princess Cruises. Again let me reiterate that participation in the activities and events is totally optional. Our goal is for you to enjoy your cruise and have a good time. We only ask that you simply respect and honor other guests with consideration and reflect a positive attitude, after all no one likes a whiner. Or as Roger says, if you don’t enjoy having a laugh or two then perhaps we are not the group for you!

Another benefit for those who enjoy socialization is that being a part of our group allows for special camaraderie and comfort whether you choose to bring a friend or come solo. Many of our friends, have through the years, connected and gotten to know one another and now look forward to being with this group. Knowing that you are a part of this group and guided by both Alex and Diana is also another major perk and I know appreciated by many returnees.

Alex is very efficient in covering your cruise and ship board needs while Diana makes sure
that the group receives the best benefits possible during this cruise. These may include seeking cruise discounts and benefits whenever possible, private shore excursions, communicating details of cruising, sharing destination information, highlighting the joys of our sea home & lifestyle during our cruise, the comfort of having familiar faces, assisting with personal questions and concerns during this group cruise, and introducing our group cruisers who also bring a number of laughs, stories and experiences to share.

So join us and c’mon aboard WITH US...its time to begin your cruise with Roger and Diana!

So you are wondering what should I do now? Well for sure add our cruise blog link to your favorite/bookmark folder so you can reference us. I’m C’mon On ‘Board ...Now What?

Yahoo! You made the hardest decision to c’mon aboard with us...as our invitation stated, you now have to make the decision to pick a stateroom. But before we go there. Let’s think about a few things...

  • Do you plan to hang out in your room or are you planning to be at the pool, in the bar, at the spa, in activities most of the day and so all you want to do is change your  clothes and sleep in your room?
  • Are you a people person? Socializer? Or do you need some solo time away from the group?
  • Do you enjoy fresh air and like to sit out and read or relax outdoors frequently?
  • Do you tend to get motion sickness?
  • Are you claustrophobic? Not thrilled about small, enclosed spaces?
  • Do you like it to be quiet or do you not mind some hustling activities?
  • Do you have requirements for wanting a tub and not just a shower for 2 weeks?
  • Do you want to be near our group to interact and socialize or would you rather have privacy and your own space?
  • Do you have a request to be near your friend or host? Or want to simply be near an elevator? Or certain location of the ship, like towards the spa or main pool? Internet cafe? Or Skywalker Bar?

These questions were presented to you so that you can think about your cruising lifestyle for the 15 days aboard the Ruby Princess. If you know what you enjoy then this will help our travel agent Alex know how to assist you in picking just the right room.

Now back to the staterooms...below are links on the Princess Cruise website that
can introduce you to the various stateroom options. However, it boils down to these generalized descriptions...

Mini-Suite

Inside Stateroom: no window, inside corridor location

Ocean View Stateroom: window or porthole with a view to the outside

Balcony Stateroom: includes a verandah/lanai that allows you to step outside without going to a public deck. Has a shower only.

Mini-Suite Stateroom: a larger cabin & balcony with a separate seating area and full tub & shower.

Suites & Family Suites; limited availability. Contact Alex.

Being with a group such as ours can be a lot of fun or overwhelming depending on how much interaction you want. Decide if you would prefer to be close to the group or friends you choose. The convenience to walk down a few door to visit with a friend or lean over your balcony to capture a photo opt of yourself with your neighbor can be a lot of fun. Or you can request for a bit of distance just to have some privacy. The choice is absolutely yours. Just be sure you talk to Alex in your decision when you book... this includes notifying your interest to be near a particular friend and travel buddy too. And yes Alex has Roger and Diana’s stateroom so absolutely request to be by us!

Check out the video and information on the stateroom for the Princess Cruise Line ships. These are general descriptions and each ship has its unique style and character. But may lend  some additional information to help assist your decision before you talk to Alex. Just click on the blue highlighted statement below to explore. Now grab your credit card and place that deposit and you are on your way...let me be the first to welcome you aboard!

Where are the cruise prices?

Why are you not listing the cruise prices for your 25th anniversary cruise? Because cruise prices are constantly and regularly changing till we just about embark onto or the ship fills up! Not to mention prices can vary depending on what kind of stateroom you pick,  to what part of the ship you would like to be located at. Whether you are first time cruiser with Princess Cruises or a returnee. Are you a military retiree? Yes, our travel agent can assist you with possible special benefits...and this is why contacting Alex is your best option.

New to cruising? What are you talking about Diana? Well in a quick response, you can pick a stateroom such as an interior room with no windows to a mini-suite which has a full tub/shower bathroom and balcony. Then pending which deck or even which part of the ship you choose, can make a price difference. Generally a stateroom located in the middle of the ship is more stable, centrally located and thus cost most. Whereas the front (bow) or the stern (rear) of the ship can be known to be the cheapest, but again availability can make a difference so contact our travel agent.

Alex, our travel agent has all the details and can assist. The again, some of you just have to know... so here you go as of September 29, 2014 the prices are quoted as noted below. AND remember the prices can change until you book to hold your stateroom with a deposit. So what are you waiting for?

Still Can't Decide? --- Message from Diana & Roger

Ready to "Join Us" on the Lido Deck?
Still undecided as to whether to join us? Well Roger and Diana says “Seriously, c’mon aboard to celebrate our “Ain’t No More” Roger and Diana Davis’ 25th Anniversary “Finale” Renewal Ceremony Celebration”!! We have certainly had a wonderful array of renewals celebrations with family and friends over this past 25 years. For those who have joined us previously, “Thank You So Much”. We will for sure cherish those incredible memories. But “Last But Not Least“ we have “Come To A Crescendo”, a”Pinnacle”, a “Peak” and “Once And For All” we have decided to make a “Final Chapter” of our Every Five Year Friendship Renewal Ceremony with our 25th Anniversary. So what this means is, if you have been coming to our five year renewals or have always meant to join us. Here’s your “LAST CHANCE”, “Last Call”, “Last Act”, “Final Scene” “Culmination” ,“Climaxing” with a “Close” to join us for our 25th year Anniversary Renewal Celebration. A 15 day Hawaiian Island Cruise on the Ruby Princess, embarking on Saturday, October 3, 2015 roundtrip from the Port of Los Angeles. Did we mention that this will be our “FINAL”, “No More”, “This is the End” we are Finishing” our renewal ceremony “Epilogue”? As we were making our plans and decisions for our 25th anniversary we came “To Sum Up” that our “Cease”, “Exist” ,“No Mas” renewal celebration had to include two of our favorites, Hawaii and Cruising.

Whoa there Diana!! Given the plethora of words and phrases you have used for “FINAL”, the readers just might conclude the WE are throwing in the towel on our marriage...NOT!!  On the contrary folks...after all these renewals, Diana has concluded that despite the opportunity to say no, she actually enjoys being with Roger...go figure..so it is no longer necessary to renew the marriage vows yet another time. This of course does not mean that we will no longer enjoy good times with you all, so relax and don’t get rid of your social calendar yet...we will still be around, like it or not!

“Finally”, our 25th Anniversary Renewal Cruise is slated for Fall 2015, October 3 to October 18, 2015. If you have any questions, please contact our friend and travel agent, Alex Kuncio at Innovative Travel Planners, 949-756-3223 or Bookit1@earthlink.net. We have held a group of staterooms ready for your participation. This maybe be “THE END” for our renewal However, if you choose to deposit and sign up for our 25th anniversary cruise... well, if you know Roger and Diana, the fun has only just begun! See you on board! All you have to do is make the call to Alex...it's truly that simple!

Ho’olu komo la kaua ... Roger and I would like to invite you to c’mon aboard and join us for our final anniversary renewal celebration on the Ruby Princess  cruise. Yes, we are closing our every 5 year renewal celebrations with this upcoming October 2015  - 15 day Hawaiian Islands Cruise, round trip from the Port of Los Angeles.

Some of you may recall that Roger and I got married on the Mahana Na’ia catamaran back on October 20, 1990 off the isle of Molokini, Maui Hawaii. SInce then we have journeyed through our time together sharing many memorable moments with our family and friends. As a result of embracing our love for fun and laughter, Roger and I decided that we needed to keep our times together going so every five years we have been celebrating with an anniversary renewal. Hey, it’s our anniversary with our family and friends who can join us and yes we use this as an excuse to get us together..its worked for almost 25 years (oh for those wondering, we are concluding our renewal celebrations not our marriage or fun - don’t need rumors to start, do we!) So to elaborate a bit and to go down memory lane, don’t be surprise if this information is important to know on the cruise or perhaps a test to see if you are checking in on our blog, hmmm... anyway, let me take this opportunity to share with you some of our 5 year anniversary renewals.
